Flittle and Espathra are Psychic-type Pokémon from the Paldea region, first appearing in the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games on the Nintendo Switch. They are known as the Frill and Ostrich Pokémon, respectively.
The Pokémon GO Spring Marathon 2026 event is happening now, and for the first time ever, players can catch two new Pokémon! Here’s a guide on how to get them.

How to Get Flittle in Pokemon GO
Okay, so usually when there’s a special event in Pokémon GO, you get a unique Pokémon by completing research tasks – you know, the Timed or Special Research. But the Spring Marathon 2026 event is a little different. They’re changing how we get that special Pokémon!
Here are the only two ways to encounter a Flittle during this event:
- The first way to get a Flittle is to hatch 5km Eggs and hope for the best! During the event, Flower Crown Pichu, Togepi, and Happiny can also appear in 5km Eggs.
- The second way to get Flittle is by making your way through the GO Pass. By completing tasks like spinning PokeStops/Gyms, exploring, catching Pokemon, winning Raids, and hatching Eggs. Flittle is a reward for Rank 19, 30, and 60, giving you three opportunities to catch it.
All players can earn GO Pass rewards, but you can speed up your progress by purchasing a Deluxe Pass for $4.99 or a Deluxe+ Pass for $6.99. The more you spend, the quicker you’ll unlock tiers. Keep in mind that GO Pass rewards will disappear on Wednesday, May 20th.
How to Evolve Flittle into Espathra
After you catch Flittle, you can evolve it by going to its profile and using 50 Candy. Getting enough Candy might take a while, but you can collect it faster by making Flittle your Buddy Pokemon and walking around. When you find Flittle in the GO Pass, remember to use Pinap Berries to get twice as much Candy.
Can Flittle Be Shiny in Pokemon GO?
Okay, so as of today, Flittle and Espathra don’t have shiny versions in Pokemon GO yet. Honestly, that’s pretty normal for new Pokemon releases – Niantic usually drops the shinies a while after the initial debut. We’ll probably have to wait, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled!
Can You Still Get Flittle After the Spring Marathon Event Ends?
Even though the Spring Marathon finishes on May 18th, Flittle will likely still be available as a reward from 5k Eggs.
Is Espathra Competitively Viable in GO?
Currently, Flittle and Espathra aren’t good choices for battles like Raids in Pokemon GO. There are many other Psychic-type Pokemon that perform much better.
