The team behind Shovel Knight says their new game, Mina the Hollower, is crucial to their future success.
According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Yacht Club Games, the creators of Shovel Knight, could face difficulties if their upcoming game, Mina the Hollower, doesn’t sell well. The game was recently delayed indefinitely, just a few weeks before it was originally scheduled to launch.
Mina the Hollower’s Performance Can Make or Break It for Them
The report details how the game’s developers hosted a preview for Schreier, but the meeting was disrupted when the conference room unexpectedly filled with smoke. Despite the incident, they proceeded with the demo to illustrate the current state of the game and explain the reasons for its further delay.
The developers of Shovel Knight recently finished a complete playthrough of the game, which allowed them to identify areas for improvement. While they’ve now pinpointed all the issues, they still need time to resolve them.
The team behind Shovel Knight is counting on the success of their new game, Mina the Hollower, to stay independent. The studio has already had to reduce its size to just 15 employees and is facing financial difficulties. According to co-founder Sean Velasco, the game’s sales will determine their future: 500,000 copies would ensure their stability, 200,000 would be a positive outcome, but sales of only 100,000 could create serious problems.
