In simple terms, the online multiplayer tactical shooter game called Spectre Divide, which was the debut project from Mountaintop Studios, is going to be shut down in the next 30 days. Additionally, it has been announced that Mountaintop Studios will be ceasing operations by the end of this week.
Specter Divide and Mountaintop Studios to Shut Down
Following the closed beta launch on August 13th last year, Spectre Divide and Mountaintop Studios have announced their closure, occurring mere months later. In a letter from studio CEO Nate Mitchell, he explains that this decision is due to insufficient “active players and income to cover the operational expenses of Spectre and the studio on a daily basis.

After the PC release, we’ve been utilizing our remaining resources to their maximum potential, but unfortunately, we’ve exhausted our funding to continue supporting the game. As a result, Mountaintop will be shutting down at the end of this week, as Mitchell explained in his letter. The team explored various alternatives such as finding a new publisher, seeking additional investments, or even being bought out. However, these options didn’t materialize. In-game purchases have been disabled and any purchases made since season one launch will be refunded.
In its debut week, Spectre Divide garnered approximately 400,000 overall gamers and reached over 30,000 simultaneous users in September. Unlike conventional tactical shooters, Spectre Divide gained popularity with a feature allowing players to switch between a Spectre clone. However, the game experienced a significant decline within mere months, failing to exceed 4,000 concurrent players since that peak. It only saw a modest resurgence of returning players in February following a new season release, but still failed to meet its targeted player count.
