It’s been ten years since a new Titanfall game, and fans have been eager for a sequel. Now, the team behind Splitgate appears to be delivering a similar experience. While it’s unknown if Respawn Entertainment will ever make another Titanfall game, 1047 Games is poised to fill the void with a fast-paced, parkour-focused, mech-action shooter.
The Titanfall games were highly praised when they came out in the 2010s, but many feel the franchise didn’t get the attention it deserved. Since Titanfall 2 in 2016, Respawn Entertainment has focused on the incredibly popular Apex Legends and the successful Star Wars Jedi series. Because of their commitment to these projects, Respawn seems unlikely to create a new Titanfall game, which disappoints many fans.
Leaked Videos Show Titanfall-Inspired Gameplay from the Splitgate Development Studio’s Next Game
As a big fan of Titanfall, I was really excited to hear there might be something new coming! It looks like 1047 Games – the folks behind Splitgate – are working on a game called Empulse, and it’s supposedly a spiritual successor to Titanfall. Insider Gaming got ahold of some leaked videos, and Tom Henderson says it has everything we loved about the original: wall running, grapple hooks, and those awesome boost pads. But the best part? He says the pre-alpha gameplay shows players actually piloting mechs around the map! They even look similar to the Titanfall mechs, complete with all the cool weapons like gatling guns, missile launchers, and shields. It’s really promising!

1047 Games’ Empulse feels a lot like a Titanfall game, which isn’t surprising considering CEO Ian Proulx has talked about wanting to make Titanfall 3 someday. Proulx has previously said that 1047 Games’ next project would take inspiration from both Titanfall and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, two popular shooters. Whether Empulse will be a success remains to be seen.
Although Splitgate was a big hit in 2021 with its unique blend of Halo and Portalstyle gameplay, its sequel, Splitgate 2, didn’t fare as well. After a disappointing launch, Splitgate 2 went back to being a beta version, and the development studio faced layoffs as the game continued to struggle. Eventually, they relaunched it as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded*. Adding to the challenges, Ian Proulx, the CEO, caused controversy at Summer Games Fest 2025 by wearing a “Make FPS Great Again” hat, sparking debate about his political views and the company’s stance. He later apologized, but the incident damaged the studio’s reputation with some fans.
Look, it’s tough to say if the drama around Proulx really hurt Splitgate, especially since a lot of us are getting burned out on games that are always being updated. But honestly, Empulse feels like exactly what 1047 Games needs to get people talking again. It’s been a whole decade since Titanfall, and let’s be real, nothing quite scratches that itch. Apex Legends is good, sure, but it’s not the same. If 1047 Games does things right, Empulse could be the Titanfall 3 we’ve all been waiting for.
