During a discussion regarding the popular theme park attractions at Disneyland, a representative from Lucasfilm made it clear that additional narratives focusing on the redheaded survivor are currently in development. This corporate tease confirms the protagonist will remain a major pillar of the modern Star Wars landscape for the foreseeable future. The character’s popularity has reached a level where his presence is felt across multiple digital and physical media.
Following Disney’s purchase of the Star Wars brand, a strict rule was established, making all theatrical releases, television shows, literature, and interactive electronic games part of a single, cohesive narrative timeline. Cal first appeared in the 2019 game Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, following his struggles after the Jedi were nearly wiped out. Respawn Entertainment has continued his story through multiple games, including the sequel Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, and a novel by Sam Maggs. Despite being a wanted man throughout the galaxy, Cal hasn’t appeared in any of the live-action Star Wars TV shows or movies yet. Before now, his only appearance outside of video games was in the 2025 animated series LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, where Cameron Monaghan voiced a LEGO version of the character trapped in a different dimension.

Written by Marc Sumerak, the book is told from Luke Skywalker’s point of view – the hero who destroyed the first Death Star. It directly states that Luke knew Cal survived and about his battles against the Empire. Since the book takes place after the original Star Wars films, it suggests Cal may have lived into the time of the New Republic, which could lead to exciting future team-ups with other characters.
Fans have been eagerly discussing the possibility of seeing the actor reprise his role in a live-action project, but he has clear requirements before agreeing. Speaking at a recent event, he explained that any return would need to genuinely advance the story, not just be a cameo for the sake of pleasing fans. He emphasized that the role would have to feel meaningful and contribute to the character’s development, stating, “It has to make sense for the story and give the character a real purpose. I wouldn’t want him just to be there; his appearance needs to be significant.” He added that, with the right storyline, he would definitely be open to the idea.
