Now that Subnautica 2 is available in Early Access, many players are curious about what the developers, Unknown Worlds, have planned. Luckily, they’ve just released an official roadmap detailing their future plans for the game. We can now share a clear picture of what’s coming next in Subnautica 2.
Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap Overview
The Subnautica 2 EA Roadmap is split up into three main sections:
- Early Access 1.1: Focus on Quality of Life (QoL) improvements
- Early Access 1.2: Focus on Co-Op/ Multiplayer elements
- Future: Major Expansions
We don’t have specific dates for these updates yet, but this looks like the order they’ll be released in. The development team also plans to continually improve the game with bug fixes, balance adjustments, and performance enhancements.
Subnautica 2 is now available in Early Access on PC and through Xbox Game Pass’s Game Preview program. The development roadmap doesn’t specify any differences between the PC and Xbox versions, suggesting updates will launch on both platforms simultaneously. We’ll update this information immediately if Unknown Worlds Entertainment clarifies the release order, such as whether PC will receive updates before Xbox.
Subnautica 2 Early Access/Game Preview Future Plans, Explained

Subnautica 2 Future Plans – EA 1.1:
The initial phase of the Subnautica 2 Early Access plan focuses on making the game better for all players through various quality-of-life improvements. Here’s what they’re planning to work on:
- Biomods Systems
- Blight Encounters
- Wrecks Gameplay
- Vehicle Docking & Fabrication
- PDA Databank
- Voicelogs Priority System
Since these items are listed as “Planned Improvements,” the first update will probably focus on making existing features better, rather than adding completely new things. That said, it looks like a small amount of new content is coming in the next update as well.
The following are listed under the “Planned Additions” headline:
- More Passive Biomod Slots
- Storage Cache
- Sprint
Players who have spent a lot of time with Subnautica 2 won’t be surprised to see these systems being improved – they’re features the community has been asking for the most.
This appears to round out the planned EA 1.1 update.
The developers of Subnautica 2, Unknown Worlds, are encouraging players to share their ideas for the game. If you have suggestions for new features, you can submit them through the “Give Feedback” tab in the pause menu.
Subnautica 2 Future Plans – EA 1.2:
The latest update for Subnautica 2 seems to be all about improving the game’s Co-Op features. From what I’ve seen, there’s now a working Multiplayer mode that lets up to four players play together.
The Early Access 1.2 update includes a list of upcoming changes to multiplayer, focusing on how things work when playing with friends in Co-Op mode.
- HUD Signals
- Base Builder Tool
- Pinned Recipes System
There are also several “Planned Additions”:
- Voice Chat
- Player Trading
- Player Revive
- Additional Customizations
Unknown Worlds hasn’t announced when these updates will be available, but they’ve said that Early Access versions 1.1 and 1.2 will come out before the first big expansion. Hopefully, the developers will let us know the release dates soon.
Subnautica 2 Future Plans – Major Expansion Updates:
The last part of the Subnautica 2 Early Access plan gives a preview of the big expansions coming later. Currently, the developers haven’t given a specific date for these expansions, only that they are planned for the future.
The following items are included under the “New Region” headline:
- Expand the Worlds
- New Biomes
- New Creatures
- New Resources
- New Tools
- New Vehicles
- Next Chapter of the Story
This update marks the beginning of a significant expansion, bringing lots of new content like items, enemies, and places to explore. Unknown Worlds has announced that smaller updates, EA 1.1 and 1.2, will be released before this major expansion arrives.
We’re still unsure if this plan will lead to the full release of Subnautica 2, or if it will just be one large expansion. We’ll update this guide as soon as we have more information.
