Subnautica 2 is now available in early access on Steam and through Xbox Game Pass, and it’s already proving popular. The game reached over 450,000 players shortly after launch and currently has more than 200,000 players playing at the same time.
Subnautica 2 has become incredibly popular on Steam, quickly rising to be one of the most-played games. Despite limited marketing from Krafton, the game reached a peak of 467,582 players shortly after its early access launch yesterday. This is a significant increase over the original Subnautica, which peaked at 51,156 players. Currently, over 201,740 players are enjoying the early access version.
Subnautica 2 is now available in early access on Steam for R500. These player numbers are just for those on PC, and the total could be even higher considering it’s also available through Xbox Game Pass. However, most players are likely enjoying the game on PC.
The official description for Subnautica 2 reads:
Subnautica 2 is a new underwater adventure where you’ll try to survive on a completely different alien planet. As the next installment in the Subnautica series, developed by Unknown Worlds, the game begins with you fleeing a conflict back home. Alterra Corporation offers you a fresh start, but something goes wrong during the journey on the colony ship CICADA. The ship’s AI forces you to continue the mission despite the danger. Now stranded, you’ll have to overcome incredible challenges to survive, and the fate of humanity on this new world rests on your shoulders.
Krafton and Unknown Worlds haven’t announced when the finished version of the game will be released, meaning it will remain in early access for now. The developers will continue to improve it based on player feedback, addressing bugs, adding updates, and introducing new content. Currently, Subnautica 2 is only playable on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and there are no plans for a PlayStation version at this time.
