When Embark Studios released The Finals, many people wondered if the game would stay popular for long. Now, after two and a half years, it’s proven successful at retaining players, consistently averaging around 10,000 on Steam. Like the show Survivor, The Finals is a competition where players strive for recognition and rewards. However, instead of survival challenges, this competition focuses on destruction and team-based combat, as players compete in three-person squads and work together to win.
In The Finals, teams compete to win by finding and securing cash from Vaults. Once they have the cash, they must carry it through a dangerous, explosive arena to a cash-out station, all while defending it from other players. While this might sound similar to other games, The Finals stands out due to its complete environmental destruction. Everything in the game is designed to be broken and used strategically, and each of the three classes offers unique ways to cause mayhem. Destruction isn’t just for show – it’s a central part of how the game is played.
MadWorld
Take Part In The Bloodiest TV Show Ever
Let me quickly explain something – this article isn’t just about games based on TV shows. I don’t often get to talk about MadWorld, so I want to take a moment to highlight it. If you like the sound of The Finals but prefer to play alone, MadWorld is a great option. It’s a single-player game developed by PlatinumGames, who are known for their excellent combat. While it’s an older game, MadWorld actually still looks surprisingly good thanks to its unique black and white (with red) art style. In fact, it might be the best-looking game from 2009, even today.
Okay, so the game throws you right into this crazy death game on Jefferson Island – think of it like a massive, messed-up prison. Basically, you play as Jack, and most levels are about racking up points by, well, brutally taking out enemies. You need those points to fight the boss at the end of each stage. And the whole thing is broadcast to an audience that’s loving all the bloodshed! Is it exactly like Survivor? Nah, not really. But imagine Survivor if it was totally insane and focused on violence – that’s pretty close to what MadWorld is like.

Among Us
Sci-Fi Survivor (Well, Sci-Fi Werewolf, Really)
Everyone expected a game similar to Survivor to be on this list, and honestly, I almost skipped Among Us because of it. But it’s really the best choice. If we exclude in-person games like Blood on the Clocktower, Among Us is the clear leader in social deduction games, and it’s still incredibly popular even after almost ten years. The basic idea is that you’re trapped on a spaceship with hidden Impostors – or maybe you are the Impostor!
In Among Us, players are either Crewmates with tasks to complete or Impostors trying to eliminate the Crewmates without getting caught. Impostors can either directly kill players or cause chaos to get innocent players voted out. This core idea of figuring out who can be trusted is very similar to the social strategies seen on the reality show Survivor. Although the games look different, the tasks Crewmates do aren’t so different from Survivor challenges—they just add a layer to the mystery of who the Impostor is.

No list of great games would be complete without a survival title, and there are tons to choose from! But if you’re looking for a game that really captures the spirit of the original Survivor TV show, Stranded Deep is our top recommendation.
Unlike the show it’s based on, Stranded Deep doesn’t focus on competition. If you’re looking for a competitive game, Among Us or The Finals would be better choices.
In Stranded Deep, you’re trying to survive in the Pacific Ocean after a plane crash. You start on a raft, but soon find a tropical island where the real challenge begins. It’s a straightforward survival game – no magic or tricks, just the basics. You’ll need to protect yourself from the elements and find safe food. Eventually, you’ll use up all the resources on your island and have to build a new raft to explore other islands and start all over again.
