WhatsApp Plus Has Officially Arrived – is it Worth it?

Okay, so WhatsApp just launched “Plus,” which is basically a paid subscription. For a long time, Meta has really emphasized that WhatsApp is free and doesn’t have ads, but this new subscription feels like they’re starting to move away from that promise a bit. It’s definitely a change!

WhatsApp Plus is an extension of the regular WhatsApp app, currently focused on letting users personalize their experience. The latest iOS version of WhatsApp now includes subscription options for iPhone users.

You don’t really need WhatsApp Plus. It just offers extra features and ways to customize the regular WhatsApp app. If you don’t subscribe, you won’t lose any of the features you already have.

WhatsApp Plus users will have access to 18 new color options to customize the app’s appearance. These new colors will replace the standard green theme, offering a fresh look for those who want to change things up.

Plus, you can now pick from 14 new icons for your home screen, letting you change the look of your apps. Remember, you can also customize your iPhone’s home screen directly to get a similar effect.

Plus, we’ve added 10 unique ringtones and a feature that lets you pin up to 20 chats to the top of your message list. Free users can only pin 3 chats, however.

You can personalize individual chats and groups with unique looks and ringtones using these customization options, giving each conversation a distinct feel.

That’s essentially all you get with WhatsApp Plus. It currently costs €2.49 in Europe, which works out to about $2.99 or R49 in South Africa. New users can try it for free for a week.

As of today, WhatsApp Plus isn’t available in South Africa, but I’ll let you know as soon as it is.
