Coinbase & Bybit: Love, Lies, and Crypto

Breaking news: Coinbase and Bybit are dating. Or maybe just… investing? According to a mysterious Chinese crypto channel, the two are “in talks” for a partnership that’s as clear as a Bitcoin transaction in a dark room. No one’s confirmed it, but everyone’s gossiping, which is basically the same thing.

Bybit’s valuation is supposedly as stable as a cryptocurrency, which is to say, not very. But hey, if they can match OKX’s $25 billion vibe, maybe they’ll finally stop looking like the awkward cousin at the crypto family reunion.

Exclusive: Coinbase, the U.S. crypto equivalent of a trust fund kid, is considering a partnership with Bybit, the offshore underdog trying to break into the “compliant” market. Bybit’s plan? Be less shady. A tall order, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Three sources? More like three people who saw a tweet and immediately started drafting a press release. This collaboration would let Bybit play nice with the U.S. market, which is basically the crypto version of “going to therapy.”

Coinbase already bought Deribit for $2.9 billion, because who needs sleep when you can buy derivatives? And OKX? They’re now worth as much as a cryptocurrency, which is impressive until you realize it’s still a cryptocurrency.

So, what’s the real deal? Probably something about money, secrecy, and the existential dread of being a crypto exchange. But hey, at least they’re not selling NFTs of their cat. Yet.

CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko say they’re top 5, but who’s counting? Probably not the SEC. Or anyone, really.
