Nintendo Sabotages Ocarina of Time Remake With Switch 2 Price Increase

Nintendo has finally confirmed the price for the upcoming Switch 2, and unfortunately, it’s higher than many expected. This price increase could negatively impact the planned remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Because of rising costs for computer parts, Sony and Microsoft have increased the prices of their PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Nintendo previously raised prices on the original Switch, but held off on increasing the price of the newer Switch 2 for its first year after release.

Nintendo recently announced its financial results, and unfortunately, the price of the upcoming Switch 2 will be increasing globally. Nintendo Japan explained this is due to changing market conditions. However, those who haven’t decided whether to buy one yet will still have a chance to purchase it at the current price for a limited time.

Nintendo Switch 2 Price Increase Coming September 2026

Okay, so I just found out the price for the Nintendo Switch 2 is going up. It’s happening sooner for folks in Japan – May 25th, to be exact. But for those of us in the rest of the world, we’ll see the price hike on September 1st, 2026. It’s gonna be $499 if you’re in the US, and €499.99 if you’re in Europe. A bit pricey, but I’m still hoping it’s worth it!

One of the biggest concerns about a potential price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 is how it might impact the rumored remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, expected to release in late 2026. If the new console costs more, many gamers might not buy it unless the remake is included as a free bonus with the system.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will become more expensive starting May 25th in Japan. Everywhere else, the price increase takes effect on September 1, 2026. In the US, the new price will be $499, and in Europe, it will be €499.99.

The Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t have a lot of major games coming out. While Pokémon Pokopia has generated excitement this year, the rest of 2026 looks a bit underwhelming with titles like a single-player Splatoon game, a Star Fox 64 remake, and a new Yoshi adventure. There’s also The Duskbloods, but we don’t even know when that will be released.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is doing okay in sales, but it’s largely benefiting from the popularity of the original Switch. To really succeed, it needs some standout, exclusive games. Plus, a higher price tag could discourage many potential buyers from trying out the new console.
