The Three Biggest Announcements From The Google Show 2026

Okay, so Google just finished their big Android 2026 event, and honestly, there was a lot to take in. They showed off everything they’re planning for the future, but a lot of it felt like hype. Instead of boring you with all the details, I’m just going to give you the rundown on the stuff that really matters.

1 – Chromebook Becomes Googlebook With Upgrades

Google recently announced it’s changing the name and look of its Chromebooks, now calling them Googlebooks.

Googlebooks are built specifically for Gemini Intelligence, using powerful technology and designed to work smoothly with all your devices. They’re made to offer helpful, personalized assistance, bringing Gemini right into the experience so you can quickly turn your ideas into finished projects.

Google Books just got a cool new feature called Magic Pointer. Simply move your finger on the screen, and Gemini AI will appear, giving you easy access to a range of helpful AI tools.

Google Books now works even better with Android phones, letting you easily mirror your phone’s screen right in the app.

Google is partnering with companies like ASUS, Acer, Dell, and HP to launch a new line of laptops called Googlebooks in the next few months. These laptops will be easy to identify thanks to a special glowing Google light bar. You can learn more at the Googlebook website.

2 – Android Auto Gets Upgrades

Android Auto is receiving a fresh update with both a redesigned look and new capabilities. Google has previewed upcoming improvements to Google Maps, and now the entire Android Auto system is also set to be enhanced.

Android Auto is getting a major update with a fresh new look inspired by the design on your phone. It now features more vibrant fonts, smoother transitions, and the ability to personalize your dashboard with wallpapers. This redesigned experience is built to look great on any car screen, no matter its shape or size.

Widgets display information and offer quick access to tools without requiring you to open entire apps. Plus, a new entertainment platform now lets you watch YouTube videos in 1080p at 60 frames per second in compatible vehicles.

Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to Android Auto, and it will work with the system’s updated look and the new 3D maps.

3 – Android 17 Gets New Features

It wouldn’t be an Android Show without Android news. Google shared some updates about Android 17.

The company is now actively promoting AirPlay and working with smartphone manufacturers to include it in more devices. This new integration is being called QuickShare.

Soon, you’ll be able to generate a special QR code called a QuickShare code, even if you don’t have the latest iPhone. This code will let you easily share content between iPhones and many Android phones.

Google has teamed up with Apple to make it easier to switch from iPhone to Android. The updated transfer tool now moves over more of your data, including passwords, photos, messages, apps, contacts, eSIM information, and even how your home screen is organized.

Android 17 is making it easier to create content for Instagram. You’ll now be able to share and record high-quality HDR videos directly within the operating system, with improved video stabilization and a better night mode for low-light recording.

Digital Wellbeing now includes a feature called Pause Point. When you open an app you find distracting, it briefly asks you why you’re using it – giving you a 10-second pause to think. During this time, you can quickly relax with a breathing exercise, look at a calming photo, or switch to a different app, like one for listening to audiobooks.

There are also new emojis, and various privacy and security features coming to Android 17.
