Dragon Ball: 12 Strongest Characters Who Rival Beerus, Ranked

Beerus is incredibly powerful, ranking among the strongest characters in the entire Dragon Ball series. He first appeared as the villain in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, where he demonstrated a level of strength that Goku had never encountered. While he initially defeated Super Saiyan God Goku using only 70% of his power, that has since been revised. His true strength in Dragon Ball Super remains unknown, but it’s clear he’s far more powerful than almost anyone else in the franchise.

Currently, the only characters in Dragon Ball who are clearly stronger than Beerus are the Angels. However, because Beerus is the only God of Destruction who can use Ultra Instinct, he might actually be surprisingly close in power to them. Since Battle of Gods, Goku and Vegeta have been constantly trying to reach Beerus’s level. Even though Beerus is incredibly powerful in Dragon Ball Super, the way power levels have increased (particularly in the manga) means several mortals are now almost as strong as he is. As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Beerus hasn’t been defeated and now faces a number of strong rivals who are eager to fight him again when the manga continues.

12. Champa is Beerus’ Incredibly Powerful Twin

Champa is the twin brother of Beerus and the God of Destruction for Universe 6. In a flashback within the Dragon Ball Super manga, they appear to be similarly powerful. While Vados states in the Dragon Ball Super anime that Champa is stronger, she’s largely exaggerating. Overall, Champa is incredibly powerful—one of the strongest beings in the multiverse and one of the few gods capable of matching Beerus’s strength.

I’ve noticed that despite being very similar to Beerus, Champa is definitely not as strong. I remember in the manga version of the Tournament of Power, all twelve Gods of Destruction had a battle, and Champa was taken out much earlier than Beerus. While Champa can certainly put up a fight and even challenge Beerus, when they’re both going all out, he just can’t match Beerus’ power and skill, especially when Beerus is using Ultra Instinct.

11. Belmod is the Third-Strongest God of Destruction

While Belmod isn’t the most powerful fighter in his universe, that really highlights just how incredibly strong the warriors of Universe 11 are. He’s still immensely powerful and surprisingly cunning. In the manga version of Dragon Ball Super, during the Zeno Exhibition Match, Belmod is one of only three Gods of Destruction who lasts until the very end before the fight is stopped. He cleverly pretends to be defeated, patiently waiting for the chance to eliminate both Beerus and Quitella.

While not as physically powerful as Beerus, Belmod is so confident in his strategy that he thinks he could win if he surprised him. As the third-strongest God of Destruction in Dragon Ball Super, Belmod is far more powerful than most beings in the multiverse. Though he isn’t the strongest overall, his intelligence and destructive abilities still make him a formidable opponent.

10. Jiren Already Surpassed Belmod in the Tournament of Power

Jiren was the clear favorite to win the Tournament of Power, being the strongest fighter in Universe 11 and even surpassing his universe’s God of Destruction. Despite Goku achieving Ultra Instinct, he still had trouble fighting Jiren and couldn’t defeat him alone. Universe 7 ultimately won because Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 worked together to defeat a worn-out Jiren, who had already proven too strong for both Ultra Instinct Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Evolved Vegeta. Their victory wasn’t decisive, however, as it came down to a fortunate elimination.

The Dragon Ball Super manga portrays Jiren as an incredibly powerful opponent. In Toyotarou’s adaptation of the Tournament of Power, Jiren overcomes Goku’s Ultra Instinct form, nearly defeating him. Goku is only saved by Vegeta’s timely intervention. This version of Jiren is stronger than even a God of Destruction like Belmod, placing him at a similar power level to Beerus. Goku recognizes Jiren’s strength and views him as a new standard of power, a perspective that carries over into Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

9. Legendary Super Saiyan Broly Fighting at Full Power Gave Goku a Better Fight Than Beerus

Broly was always a powerful character in Dragon Ball Z, but Akira Toriyama significantly increased his strength when he officially added him to the story of Dragon Ball Super. Even in his normal state, Broly is incredibly powerful, able to battle fighters who can use God Ki. Becoming a Super Saiyan lets him fight opponents at the Super Saiyan Blue level, and his Legendary Super Saiyan transformation makes him one of the most formidable beings in the entire multiverse. In the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku actually thinks Broly is even stronger than Beerus!

When at his strongest, Broly is so powerful that Goku and Vegeta must fuse into Gogeta just to have a chance against him. Even then, Gogeta needs to transform into Super Saiyan Blue to win. Broly hasn’t fully controlled his power yet, but if he does, he’ll be one of the very few characters in Dragon Ball who could fight Beerus and survive. The fact that he was able to battle Gogeta and live demonstrates just how strong he is.

8. Moro Became One of the Most Powerful Beings in the Multiverse Once He Unlocked Ultra Instinct

The primary antagonist in the forthcoming Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol anime is Planet Eater Moro, expected to debut around 2027 or 2028, following the completion of the Dragon Ball Super remake. Many fans consider Moro to be the best villain introduced in Dragon Ball Super, and one of Goku’s most challenging foes. After absorbing Seven-Three, Moro gains the ability to replicate the skills of other fighters.

In the climactic fight of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, Moro gains the power of the trainee angel Merus. This gives Moro access to God Ki and, surprisingly, even allows him to use Ultra Instinct. Goku states that Moro is the strongest opponent he’s ever faced, exceeding even Beerus’ power from the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Moro’s strength increases further when his body starts to reject Merus’ energy, and he merges with Earth, beginning to drain the life force of all living creatures on the planet.

7. Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku is the Closest He’s Ever Been to Catching Up to Beerus

Goku considers meeting Beerus a turning point in his life. Beerus pushed him to train harder than ever, allowing Goku to reach power levels previously unimaginable in the original Dragon Ball Z series. By the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Goku has learned techniques from the Angels and fully mastered Ultra Instinct. He can now combine Super Saiyan transformations with Ultra Instinct and activate Perfected Ultra Instinct at will.

Goku was once seen as a possible replacement for Beerus as the God of Destruction, but now he’s training to become the strongest fighter possible, following the path of the Angels. While he isn’t strong enough to defeat Beerus yet, Beerus recognizes Goku as a worthy opponent. Before the Dragon Ball Super series concludes, Goku will need a final battle against Beerus to demonstrate whether he’s finally exceeded the power of the gods.

6. Ultra Ego Vegeta is Beerus’ Greatest Disciple

I’ve noticed a real shift in how Vegeta is perceived thanks to Dragon Ball Super. While Goku needed a special ritual to access God Ki, Vegeta actually trained his way to it, spending six months pushing himself on Beerus’ Planet. It’s become clear that Beerus has a much closer connection with Vegeta than with Goku. In fact, Beerus seems to be actively mentoring Vegeta, preparing him to potentially become the next God of Destruction for Universe 7.

During the Granolah the Survivor arc, Beerus gives Vegeta one of his Destroyer earrings. Also in that arc, Vegeta achieves Ultra Ego, demonstrating his incredible control over destructive energy. After defeating Goku in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vegeta proves he’s surpassed his longtime rival. Beerus sees Vegeta as a worthy opponent, and they frequently practice fighting. While Beerus always wins currently, many believe it’s only a matter of time before Vegeta finally wins a match.

5. Gohan Beast Had So Much Power, He Could Replace Beerus

I’ve been watching the events in Dragon Ball Super closely, and it’s clear to me that Gohan is now the strongest Z-Fighter. His new ‘Beast’ form seems like an evolved version of his Ultimate form, unlocking even more of his hidden power. It’s incredible – he’s powerful enough to potentially defeat even Goku in his Perfected Ultra Instinct state, easily overpower Broly, and even hold his own while fighting Goku, Vegeta, Broly, Goten, and Trunks all at once. It’s a whole new level for him.

In the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super, Gohan’s new Beast form is so powerful it’s caught the attention of Whis, an angel and attendant to Beerus. Whis even hinted that Gohan could potentially become Universe 7’s next God of Destruction, a role currently held by Beerus. While Beerus disagreed, the mere fact that Whis thinks Gohan is a possible replacement suggests their power levels are comparable. Considering what Gohan has already demonstrated, he’s undoubtedly one of the strongest characters around.

4. Black Frieza is About to Become Beerus’ Worst Nightmare

I’ve always known Frieza was incredibly strong, but the power-up he’s gotten since coming back in Dragon Ball Super is just insane! When he was first revived, he wasn’t even as strong as Goku when he first went Super Saiyan on Namek. But now, after the Granolah the Survivor Saga, he’s honestly the strongest mortal in the entire multiverse! It’s going to be a real challenge for Goku and the Z-Fighters when the Dragon Ball Super manga continues – they’re facing a seriously tough opponent!

Currently, it’s unclear what Black Frieza is ultimately trying to achieve, beyond gradually conquering the universe. His effortless victories over both Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta suggest he’s far more powerful than either Saiyan, and possibly as strong as Beerus himself. In his Black Frieza form, he could genuinely challenge Beerus in a fight. Even more concerning, Black Frieza could simply kill the Supreme Kai, which would erase Beerus from existence without any conflict.

3. Vegito is Only Held Back By the Potara’s Limitations

Vegito’s biggest weakness is that the Potara earrings can’t handle his full strength. While the earrings usually last an hour, Vegito’s fusion during the Goku Black Saga breaks apart in just minutes because his Super Saiyan Blue form is incredibly powerful. However, if Vegito fights quickly and efficiently, he could potentially give Beerus a truly challenging battle.

Many fans overlook the fact that Whis stated Goku and Vegeta could have defeated Beerus if they’d teamed up during the Resurrection F movie. Their constant competition makes Vegito a uniquely powerful fusion, strong enough to almost beat the immortal Fused Zamasu. While Beerus might have a small advantage, Super Saiyan Blue Vegito is definitely on the same power level as a God of Destruction.
