Subnautica 2 is now available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers across all membership levels. This makes it the eighth game added to the service in May 2026, and the eightieth addition to Xbox Game Pass this year.
The original Subnautica is widely considered one of the greatest survival games of all time, and its sequel, Subnautica: Below Zero, also received positive feedback. Together, these games have sold over 18.5 million copies as of February 2026. Looking ahead, Subnautica 2 has been the top-wishlisted game on Steam since September 2025, making it one of the most eagerly awaited games of 2026 from Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
Subnautica 2 Early Access Now Available on Xbox Game Pass
The early access version of Subnautica 2 launched on May 14th at 11am EDT for both Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s also now available as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. While first-party Xbox games usually take six months to a year to reach the Premium tier of Game Pass, it’s uncertain if Subnautica 2 will follow that schedule, as it’s published by a third party. Based on Microsoft’s typical release timing for third-party games, it likely won’t be available on Xbox Game Pass Premium until at least November 2026.
While the first two Subnautica games were originally designed for single players, the first game gained a following for its unofficial multiplayer support through a mod called Nitrox. Subnautica 2 takes things a step further by including built-in co-op, allowing up to four players to play together.

Okay, so I’m still waiting for Subnautica 2 to hit Xbox Game Pass Premium, but at least we got Doom: The Dark Ages added today. It’s actually turning one year old tomorrow, May 15th, which means today was pretty much the last chance for Microsoft to keep its promise of getting their new games onto the Premium tier within a year of launch. Hopefully Subnautica 2 shows up soon!
The newest game coming to Xbox Game Pass is Forza Horizon 6, launching on May 19, 2026. If you pay an extra $60 for the Premium Edition, you can start playing even earlier, on May 15th. Even if you cancel your subscription later, that purchase will still give you access to the full game. Microsoft is expected to announce the next batch of Game Pass releases for May 2026 (Wave 2) on May 18th or 19th, with the 19th being the more probable date.
