As a big fan of Subnautica 2, I’ve quickly learned that Lead is a super important crafting material. You need it to build the Sonic Resonator, which is honestly a game-changer for getting tons of ore. It’s not like Titanium or Copper, which you find everywhere. Lead is actually pretty rare, especially when you’re first starting out and exploring!
At the beginning of the game, Lead is only available in one place, and it’s quite far from where you start. If you’re not sure where to look, it can be hard to find. Here’s where you need to go.
Where to Find Lead in Subnautica 2
Lead Location
| Distance from Lifepod | 340m |
|---|---|
| Direction from Lifepod | NE |
| Depth | 60m |
| Harvest Method | Hand / Sonic Resonator |
You can find Lead for the first time in Subnautica 2 on the seabed directly beneath the Cicada Wreck, also known as the Lander Garage. This landmark is located about 340 meters northeast of your Lifepod.
To reach this location, stand facing the Lifepod. Then, turn your compass to the northeast. Fine-tune the direction until the center marker lines up between the northeast and 60-degree marks, just like in the picture above.
Swim straight ahead for 340 meters, then look down – you’ll see a large shipwreck. Explore the seabed under and around the wreck, called the Cicada, and you’ll discover many lead deposits, both large and small, that you can collect.
The Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage) is near the Blackbox – Ruby signal. If you’ve already unlocked that signal through NoA, you can use it to find your way. But, because that signal doesn’t appear until later in the game, we’re using the Lifepod as the main landmark. This way, you can find Lead as soon as you start playing.
Types of Lead Deposits
There are two types of Lead deposits I’ve found so far in Subnautica 2:
| Lead Node | Harvest Method | Yield |
|---|---|---|
| Small | Hand | 1 |
| Large | Sonic Resonator | 5 |
There might also be deposits of Medium Lead in the game that players can mine by hand, but I haven’t come across any yet during my gameplay.
Scanner Station
In Subnautica 2, you can build a Scanner Station, a helpful base module. You unlock the blueprint by finding and scanning its pieces within the wreckage of Alterra ships throughout the game. Once built, the Scanner Station will locate and track all resources within a 300-meter range of your base, making it much easier to find materials like Lead and other ores.
The Scanner Station can only reach 300 meters, so when building your base, make sure it’s at least 100 meters northeast of the Lifepod. This will ensure the Scanner Station can detect the Lead deposits located under the Cicada Wreck.
| Base Module | Crafting Equipment | Materials |
|---|---|---|
| Scanner Station | Habitat Builder (Interior Facilities) |
