Sea of Thieves Creator Outed For Child Sexual Abuse Allegations

A well-known content creator for the game Sea of Thieves is facing serious allegations of child sexual abuse and attempting to communicate inappropriately with a minor. This has caused many other creators in the Sea of Thieves community to distance themselves, and there are also calls for a community manager to step down.

According to Kotaku, around a dozen Sea of Thieves content creators are leaving Rare’s Partner Program following accusations of sexual misconduct against someone known as a “Boatswain.” Rare gives this title to creators they see as positive figures in the Sea of Thieves community.

Content creator Bruno, who goes by Heslashthem online, is facing accusations of having inappropriate conversations with players under the age of 18 on Discord and during his live streams. These claims, supported by screenshots and other evidence, were gathered by members of the gaming community in a document called “The Bruno Files.” A recent update to the document, posted by a user named realThatGuyVic, details new allegations that Bruno attempted to get explicit photos from a player who is believed to be a minor.

RealThatGuyVic and other creators who left the Partner Program claim that Rare tried to suppress the controversy by heavily moderating discussions and deleting comments about it.

Rare’s community managers did vaguely address the allegations in a recent post:

Hello everyone, to ensure this server follows our guidelines, we’re significantly slowing activity while most of our team (who are based in Europe) take a break. Please know that we are actively looking into all reported issues and addressing them quickly. However, we won’t be able to discuss specific reports or incidents publicly, as is our standard practice.

Nearly a dozen content creators are upset with how the Sea of Thieves team is responding to a recent issue, and have asked to leave the game’s Partner Program. One creator, Ozurian, shared their concerns on X (formerly Twitter):

Hello Sea of Thieves team, I’m requesting that my name and the Hat of Unfeasibly Glorious Fame be removed from my account. Recent events and the way the community management team handled them have led me to no longer want to be associated with the game or Rare. I hope that leadership will involve the authorities to address this situation and provide a clear statement to the community.
