Bungie is letting players know that the first season of Marathon is almost over, and this has important consequences because of the game’s unique style. Unlike Destiny 2, where seasons typically just end and a new one begins, the end of a season in Marathon, an extraction shooter, means significant changes. Players should understand what to expect when the season concludes after launching in early March.
Despite concerns about Bungie’s recent financial losses and decreasing player counts, development on Marathon seems to be continuing strongly. Creative director Julia Nardin recently shared that Bungie intends to expand Marathon‘s story over the next few years, with each new season serving as a fresh starting point for both players and the narrative.
Marathon’s Seasonal Reset: What is Kept and Reset?
The official Marathon Twitter account announced that the current season is ending soon. Like other games in the extraction shooter genre, such as Escape from Tarkov, Marathon will reset player progress between seasons. Season 2 starts on June 2nd, and Bungie will share full details about the new season on May 25th. Players have been wondering what will be reset, what they’ll be able to carry over, and if there will be any rewards for their progress. Now, Bungie has released answers to those questions.

Many extraction shooter games, like ARC Raiders, have tried different ways to handle seasonal resets. However, Bungie seems to be going back to a more standard approach. They’ve announced that at the beginning of each season, certain player settings and features will be reset.

When Nightfall arrives on June 2nd, you won’t lose all your progress. You’ll keep everything you’ve unlocked, including your chosen factions, any cosmetic items you’ve earned or bought, all your Lux and Silk, and the Codex entries you’ve collected. Plus, in the final weeks of the current season, Bungie is boosting rewards, making the Cryo Archive activity easier to access, and increasing the challenge from enemy forces across all maps.
When Season 2 begins in Marathon, players can earn special kits through the Codex based on how far they progressed in Season 1. Runners who reached Level 10 or 25 will unlock an Enhanced Cyberacme kit. Level 50 runners will get a Deluxe Cyberacme kit, and those who reached Level 75 will receive the best reward: a Superior Cyberacme kit.

Bungie is aiming for Season 2 to breathe new life into Marathon. They’ll reveal all the details on May 25th, but have already shared some exciting updates. These include nighttime versions of maps like Dire Marsh and a new character customization option called the Sentinel shell. Along with the new Cradle system, which lets players fine-tune their shell stats, fans are optimistic that these improvements will make Marathon Season 2 a more enjoyable and successful experience.
