It looks like Best Buy accidentally sent out an early promotional email hinting at when pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 will begin. According to the email, pre-orders are expected to open on Monday, May 18, 2026. The promotion offered a 5% discount on physical copies of the game and was scheduled to run until May 21, 2026.
So, this YouTuber, Frogboyx1Gaming, was the first one to show off an email they got – he streamed it live and then posted screenshots. After that, a bunch of other people started saying they got the same thing in their inbox. Tom Henderson, a known leaker, and a lot of people on Reddit confirmed it too. Insider Gaming checked it all out and said yeah, the email is legit and Best Buy accidentally sent it out early.

Okay, so it’s looking like the marketing push is ending on May 21st, which is the same day Take-Two Interactive has their earnings call. That’s got everyone thinking they’re deliberately linking the two announcements. And get this – May 19th, when pre-orders are rumored to go live, will be exactly six months before the GTA VI release date of November 19, 2026. It feels like everything’s being planned out perfectly!
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, recently spoke with Bloomberg, Business Insider, and Game File, consistently confirming the game’s launch in November. He also indicated that marketing efforts would be increasing soon. While he previously mentioned a full marketing push starting in summer 2026, current activity suggests this may happen sooner than expected.
Okay, so this is kinda wild. Sony’s been sending out emails directly to gamers – I got one too, apparently – saying that because Grand Theft Auto VI is on my PlayStation wishlist, I should grab a PS5 now to be ready for the November 19, 2026 launch. It’s a pretty direct push, and Videotech over on X (formerly Twitter) was the first to notice it. The really weird part? Some people are saying they already own a PS5 and still got the email! It’s a pretty aggressive marketing tactic, to say the least.
Sony is reportedly emailing people who haven’t yet bought a PlayStation 5, especially those who’ve shown interest in Grand Theft Auto VI by adding it to their wishlist on the PlayStation Store, to encourage them to purchase a PS5.

Sony has been actively involved in promoting GTA VI since the game’s second trailer in May 2025, which highlighted that it was played on a PlayStation 5. According to Bloomberg, Take-Two CEO Zelnick confirmed that any period of the game being exclusive to PlayStation is a separate agreement from this marketing partnership. Notably, GTA VI was the only game not made by Sony to be featured in Sony’s recent investor presentation, appearing alongside Sony’s own titles like Saros and Marvel’s Wolverine.
On May 11th, people noticed the Rockstar Games website was temporarily unavailable without any explanation. Shortly after, Game Informer hinted in their newsletter that a new, unannounced game would be featured on their next cover. This sparked excitement because Game Informer was the first to reveal Grand Theft Auto 5 back in 2012. As of now, Rockstar Games, Best Buy, and Take-Two Interactive haven’t officially announced anything.
