7 Most Unique Devil Fruits in One Piece

In the world of One Piece, people gain extraordinary powers by eating Devil Fruits. These mystical fruits come with a catch: they make the eater unable to swim. Because of their incredible abilities, Devil Fruits are highly sought after. While most fruits offer fairly standard powers, the author has created some truly special ones that are unique, either by bending the usual rules of Devil Fruits or simply being one-of-a-kind.

7. Mochi Mochi no Mi

  • User: Katakuri
  • Type: Special Paramecia

The Mochi Mochi no Mi is a Devil Fruit introduced in the Whole Cake Island arc. Katakuri, a powerful commander of the Big Mom Pirates, ate this fruit, giving him the ability to transform into mochi and create/control it at will. What makes the Mochi Mochi no Mi special is that it’s the only Devil Fruit in One Piece classified as a ‘Special Paramecia’ type, and it appears likely to remain the sole fruit of this kind.

Okay, so the story behind Katakuri’s Devil Fruit is pretty interesting! Originally, Eiichiro Oda thought of the Mochi Mochi no Mi as a Logia-type, but then he realized it didn’t quite fit. Logia fruits are supposed to let you become a natural element, like fire or ice, and mochi… well, it’s not really either of those things! So, he ended up creating a whole new category – Special Paramecia – just to properly classify it. It’s a testament to how unique and cleverly designed that fruit really is!

6. Yami Yami no Mi

  • User: Blackbeard
  • Type: Logia

The Yami Yami no Mi is considered the most powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit, and Blackbeard desperately wanted it – now he possesses it. What makes this fruit so special is that it doesn’t work like other Logia fruits. Unlike typical Logia users, Blackbeard can’t become intangible using the darkness it provides.

Adding to its dangers, this Devil Fruit makes its user twice as vulnerable to attacks – a characteristic unlike any other. However, it offers a unique trade-off: the ability to absorb the powers of other Devil Fruits. This darkness will likely play a crucial role as the story reaches its conclusion.

5. Yomi Yomi no Mi

  • User: Brook
  • Type: Paramecia

The Yomi Yomi no Mi is a Devil Fruit that Brook ate. Also called the Revival Fruit, it’s special because it works differently than most Devil Fruits, making it quite unusual.

Okay, so the Yomi Yomi no Mi is amazing! When Brook first ate it, nothing happened at all – it seemed totally useless for years. But here’s the incredible thing: unlike other Devil Fruits which just stop working when you die and you get reborn, this one activates after death! Seriously, it’s the only Devil Fruit in One Piece that does that. When Brook actually passed away, the fruit brought him back to life, but not just as he was – it also gave him incredible powers connected to his soul!

4. Akuma no Mi

  • User: Imu
  • Type: Unknown

Nerona Imu is predicted to be the ultimate villain in the One Piece story, so it makes sense that he has a particularly unusual Devil Fruit power. For a long time, the name of his fruit was a mystery, but the author, Oda, has now revealed it to be the Akuma no Mi – simply meaning “The Devil Fruit.” This name itself is unique, setting it apart from all other Devil Fruits. Even more significantly, Imu’s power differs from all others in how it’s written: instead of using Kanji, it uses Katakana, and it doesn’t follow the usual double-name convention for Devil Fruits.

Imu’s Devil Fruit is believed to be the very first of its kind, and its origins are still unknown. Its powers are incredibly unusual, combining aspects of all three main types of Devil Fruits. This allows Imu to use magic-like abilities and grant others extraordinary gifts, such as immortality, healing, immense strength, and even powers inspired by Yokai folklore through special contracts.

3. Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika

  • User: Luffy
  • Type: Mythical Zoan

Throughout most of the One Piece series, everyone believed Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi, a Devil Fruit that gave him rubber powers. But during the Wano arc, his fight with Kaido revealed the truth: Luffy’s actual Devil Fruit is the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.

For over twenty years, the idea surrounding this Devil Fruit has been misunderstood, making it truly one-of-a-kind. What further sets the Nika Fruit apart is that its full potential seems to unlock only when it’s Awakened. Beyond that, it allows the user to manifest anything they can imagine, essentially letting Luffy create almost anything he thinks of. Interestingly, it also breaks some established Devil Fruit rules. Despite being a Mythical Zoan type, Luffy has demonstrated the ability to alter his surroundings – a power usually seen in Awakened Paramecia fruits.

2. Tama Tama no Mi

  • User: Tamago
  • Type: Zoan

I’m absolutely fascinated by the Tama Tama no Mi! It’s such a weird and wonderful Devil Fruit. Basically, it’s a Zoan-type that lets you turn into an egg – seriously! Tamago from the Big Mom Pirates ate it, and it’s unlike any other Zoan transformation I’ve seen. The powers tied to being an egg are just really unique and interesting, making it a standout fruit for me.

Tamago has a unique ability: when defeated, he revives in a more chicken-like form. He cycles through three forms – Baron Tamago, Viscount Hiyoko, and Count Niwatori – repeatedly. The only way to truly defeat him is to attack him while he’s in his yolk state. While this power seems mostly comedic, created by Oda for a laugh, it’s still a fascinating ability. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll see much more of it as the story nears its end.

1. Yokai

  • User: Five Elders
  • Type: Mythical Zoan (Presumed)

The Five Elders officially appeared in the One Piece story during the Egghead Arc, and Eiichiro Oda revealed they each have special powers. These powers initially seemed like a rare type of Devil Fruit, but Oda’s presentation hints they might be something else entirely.

Oda has presented the Yokai as beings with inherent powers, separate from Devil Fruits, which immediately sets them apart. Their abilities don’t come from eating a Devil Fruit, but instead seem to originate from Imu’s own unique Akuma no Mi. While the full story behind these Yokai powers is still a mystery, it’s clear they are unlike anything else we’ve seen in the world of One Piece.
