ConcernedApe Explains How Much He Officially Works on Haunted Chocolatier and Stardew Valley

Eric Barone, known as ConcernedApe, is still hard at work on his upcoming game, Haunted Chocolatier, and recently revealed how much time he dedicates to its development. As a successor to the hugely popular Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier has a lot to live up to, as Stardew Valley essentially created and dominates the farming RPG genre.

Importantly, Stardew Valley continues to receive updates, which has understandably caused delays for Haunted Chocolatier. The creator, ConcernedApe, isn’t focused on simply completing Stardew Valley; he keeps adding new content and features. However, he recently shared that he’s encountered some new difficulties since initially announcing Haunted Chocolatier.

ConcernedApe Works on Haunted Chocolatier 5 Days a Week

Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, is now dedicating five days a week to his next project, Haunted Chocolatier. The other two days are spent updating Stardew Valley. Fans were starting to worry about Haunted Chocolatier‘s progress, as there hadn’t been any news for a while, but Barone confirmed earlier this year that it’s still being made. He recently explained to Game Informer (via GamesRadar) that developing Haunted Chocolatier is proving more challenging than Stardew Valley. Back when he made Stardew Valley, he was relatively unknown, but now he receives a lot of fan mail and frequent requests from businesses, which has slowed down his development process.

He explained he really needs to focus on his work and feels overwhelmed by the attention Stardew Valley receives, like fan mail. While he’s grateful people enjoy the game, it’s hard to concentrate when he’s constantly pulled in different directions. The last update on his new game, Haunted Chocolatier, was before Stardew Valley‘s 10th anniversary, and he admitted he’s been struggling to balance work on both projects. The demands on his time have only increased since then, slowing down progress on both games.

It’s been over five years since Haunted Chocolatier was announced, and it doesn’t look like it will be released anytime soon. However, Stardew Valley still has surprises hidden within it, even after all this time! With all the updates ConcernedApe and his team have added, it might be worth starting a new game from the beginning, especially if you haven’t played since 2016. That said, Haunted Chocolatier is planned to be a much larger and more intricate game, which might make it hard to go back to the simpler farming life of Stardew Valley.

There’s definitely no lack of things to do in Stardew Valley. Completing the main story takes around 50 to 60 hours, and the optional content can easily add another 50 to 150 hours, depending on how much you choose to explore. Plus, it’s a game you can play endlessly. Haunted Chocolatier will likely offer a similar amount of content, but with a focus on making chocolate and candy instead of farming. Beyond that, though, very little is known, and the developer, ConcernedApe, hasn’t given any indication of when the game will be released.
