When you first build your base in Subnautica 2, you’ll likely encounter the “Oxygen Production Offline” problem. Your base’s oxygen system only works when it has power. If your base isn’t connected to a power source, or if you’re using more power than your base can generate, everything will shut down – including oxygen production.
Restoring oxygen requires a power source for your base, which provides the energy needed for everything – including making the air breathable. Luckily, getting power established early in Subnautica 2 is quite simple.
How to Add Power to Your Base in Subnautica 2
Solar Panel

The Solar Panel provides base power and can be placed on your base’s roof with the Habitat Builder. You automatically have access to it as soon as you get the Habitat Builder – look for it under the Exterior Facilities – Power section.
Solar Panels generate energy for your base, providing between 1 and 8 Energy per second depending on the time of day. They produce the most energy – up to 8 Energy/sec – when the sun is shining. At night, energy production drops to as little as 1 Energy/sec, but if your base is close to the ground, the panels will still produce at least 2 Energy/sec even in darkness.
The Solar Panel provides a steady 1 Energy per second, even when it’s dark. Because you can place as many Solar Panels on your base as space allows, you can generate enough power to keep everything running, day or night.
This isn’t a good long-term solution. Solar Panels are really only useful when you’re first starting the game, as they don’t provide consistent power. You’ll need to upgrade to a more dependable power source for consistent energy.
Hydroelectric Turbine

You can find both pieces of the Hydroelectric Turbine near the same underwater tunnel. Start at Camp One and swim east for 100 meters. Look down to find a strong current flowing along the seabed. Follow this current, and you’ll discover both turbine fragments along the way.
- Hydroelectric Turbine Fragment #1 Location: 364m S-SW of Lifepod, near the water current behind Camp One.
- Hydroelectric Turbine Fragment #2 Location: 390m S-SW of Lifepod, on a metal platform near the water current tunnel behind Camp One.
The Hydroelectric Turbine generates power by being placed in a flowing body of water and connected to your base using a Power Transmitter. Conveniently, you can find a piece of the Power Transmitter (a Fragment) right near one of the Turbine Fragments (#2).
One of the biggest advantages of Hydroelectric Turbines is that you can build as many as you need. As long as you have enough Titanium, Copper, and Silver, any flowing water provides a practically unlimited source of power.
What’s really great is that several Hydroelectric Turbines can use the same Power Transmitters, so you only need to connect a water source to your base one time.
As a big fan, I’m excited to say there are even more ways to get power in the game! Besides the Solar Panels and Hydroelectric Turbines, you’ll eventually unlock Bioreactors and Thermal Plants too. You’ll get access to those as you play further into the game, which is awesome!
