Puzzles and lock combinations in Directive 8020 aren’t very frequent, but when they appear, they can take players a significant amount of time to solve and advance the story. A particularly challenging puzzle occurs in Episode 5, requiring Cooper to correctly identify certain chemical agents.
This puzzle challenges players to find and combine clues hidden in the room to determine the solution. It can be tricky to figure out, so the following guide explains how to solve it and reveals the final chemical code.
How to Solve the Correct Chemical Agents Puzzle in Directive 5020
When you start the puzzle, begin by looking at the “Diazepam Synthesis” display. It shows three chemical structures as diagrams. It’s helpful to memorize these structures, or take a picture of them, so you can compare them as you solve the puzzle.
Next, please examine the display boards around the room. Each board features a different molecular structure. Your task is to find the three chemicals whose structures match those shown on the Diazepam Synthesis board.
The three required chemicals are:
- Chloroacetyl Chloride
- Ammonia
- Dimethyl Sulfate
Now that you’ve identified the chemicals you need, go to the storage cabinet. There, you can see each chemical and the number associated with it. If the numbers are hard to read, press the ‘read’ button on your controller or keyboard to get a clearer display and make it easier to write them down.
The chemical number combinations are:
- Chloroacetyl Chloride = 1
- Ammonia = 6
- Dimethyl Sulfate = 8
Okay, so I figured out you need to put in the code 168 on that cabinet. That mixes the chemicals, which finally solves that puzzle! Once it’s done, Cooper gets the sedative he needs for Mr. Williams – phew, that was a tricky one!
