Netflix is building a special AI team, called INKubator, to create animated shorts using artificial intelligence. While Netflix hasn’t publicly announced this, recent job postings suggest they are serious about exploring AI-powered animation.
According to The Verge, Netflix is secretly building an AI studio called INKubator. They’re hiring people to create animated shorts and specials using artificial intelligence. Recent job postings have been looking for artists and producers who are familiar with AI and generative AI tools.
According to LinkedIn, Netflix launched its AI studio, INKubator, around March 2026. It’s currently headed by Serrena Iyer, who has experience in strategy and operations at companies like DreamWorks Animation, MRC Studios, and A24 Films. Iyer’s background suggests Netflix is heavily invested in developing and integrating generative AI into its platform.
There’s no immediate cause for concern. Currently, INKubator appears to be using AI only for short-form content and specials, with no known plans to incorporate it into their main shows. They also aren’t pursuing full-length movies, likely because while AI can create them, the technology still struggles to maintain consistent quality over longer durations – a problem you can see in most AI-generated animated shorts exceeding a few minutes.
Netflix hasn’t said much about its AI studio, so there hasn’t been significant criticism yet. But once people find out, it will likely face a lot of backlash. Many are wary of generative AI, and rightfully so, particularly when it impacts creative fields. The gaming industry, for instance, has already seen developers reverse course and apologize for using AI, often calling it a “mistake” during development, like with the game Crimson Desert.
