The Naturalist event kicked off in Red Dead Redemption 2 last week, and there are big rewards available for players who participate in the next few days. Similar to previous events, you can earn a lot more XP and money by completing certain missions and activities while exploring the open world.
Although it hasn’t been as massively popular as Grand Theft Auto V‘s online mode, Red Dead Redemption 2‘s online world has still attracted a large and dedicated player base for the past seven years, largely due to Rockstar Games’ ongoing support. Over that time, the game has received significant updates, most notably the addition of Roles, which give players better rewards for completing specific missions and activities. These updates have also been consistently paired with seasonal events that offer discounts on items, free cosmetic gear, and extra experience points.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s Naturalist Event Offers Some Big Rewards
Even though Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t getting any big updates anymore, Rockstar continues to host events within the game. The current event, called the Naturalist event, started on May 5th and lasts until June 1st. Players can help Harriet Davenport identify rare animals, or assist Gus Macmillan in hunting them. Participating in any Wildlife Photographer or Wild Animal Kills Challenge free roam event throughout the month will earn you four times the usual amount of Red Dead Online cash and XP. Completing just one Wildlife Photographer mission will also unlock the blue Guerra Poncho for your character.

Throughout May, Red Dead Redemption 2 is offering exciting ways to earn more in-game rewards. From May 12th to 18th, players can earn four times the cash, gold, and XP by participating in Open Target Races, and three times the rewards in the Overrun Series. To help you win, Arabian and Missouri Fox Trotter horses, along with their best saddles, are 40% off for a limited time. The Featured Series will continue all month, with different events highlighted each week: May 19th–25th will feature Race Series 2, and May 26th–June 1st will focus on Target Races and Capture Mode.
Throughout May, Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature rotating weekly challenges. Completing these challenges earns players in-game money and unlocks special cosmetic items. This week, from May 12th to 18th, completing three daily challenges will give players a 50% discount on an item for the Established or Distinguished Naturalist Role. Plus, some popular clothing items, like the Benbow Jacket and Morning Tail Coat, are available for a limited time.
