There’s nothing quite like a fantastic single-player game. While multiplayer and online games are enjoyable, they don’t replace the experience of a classic single-player adventure. No matter if you have a powerful gaming PC or prefer the Switch 2, you can always find several great single-player games to play, and they come in all sorts of genres. The single-player games coming in 2026 will offer something for everyone, with epic stories, innovative gameplay, or simply a fun way to pass the time.
We’ve already seen some great games released this year, including Resident Evil: Requiem and Pragmata, plus other excellent titles. But the best might still be on the way! Let’s take a look at the upcoming single-player games that are likely to be everyone’s obsession over the next two months.
A few notes:
- Only games without any multiplayer whatsoever will be included. So, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has been skipped since it has co-op.
- I’m mostly sticking to the next two months, as I want to avoid mentioning games that are still 6 months away.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
The First Big Single-Player Nintendo Exclusive Of 2026
While the Nintendo Switch 2 is doing well in 2026, it’s been lacking major exclusive games. That’s about to change with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, bringing the beloved green dinosaur back in his first starring role since 2019. Yoshi games, aside from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, are typically gentle and welcoming platformers that still deliver the classic Nintendo experience.
Based on what we’ve seen, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book appears to prioritize exploration and puzzle-solving over difficult challenges, so it might not be the best choice if you’re looking for a tough game. It seems to be a departure from Yoshi’s Crafted World, focusing more on discovering secrets and solving puzzles. A new feature lets Yoshi gain abilities by carrying creatures on his back, which is similar to how Cappy worked in Super Mario Odyssey.
I’m really excited to finally play this game on my Switch 2! It’s been sitting unused for a while now.
007 First Light
The First James Bond Game Since 2012
James Bond is famous for his appearances in novels and films, but he’s also been featured in many video games, especially in the 1990s and 2000s. However, he hasn’t been in a new game for quite some time. The last one, 007 Legends, wasn’t very well received. Now, IO Interactive is releasing 007 First Light, which is exciting not only because it brings Bond back to the gaming world, but for other reasons as well.
IO Interactive, the studio behind the acclaimed Hitman series, has spent the last ten years crafting a brand new James Bond game. This game will tell a unique story focusing on Bond’s early days as an agent, giving the developers the freedom to create their own narrative. Unlike some recent action games, 007 First Light will be a focused, story-driven adventure. While not a fully open-world experience, levels will offer a good degree of freedom and exploration, reminiscent of the Hitman games.
Gothic 1 Remake
The Return Of An All-Time Great RPG
As a long-time RPG fan, I’m really excited about all the remakes and remasters coming out lately! One I’m especially looking forward to is the remake of Gothic. The original game, from Piranha Bytes, was a huge deal back in the early 2000s – it wasn’t perfect, sure, but it was incredibly immersive, and honestly, few games have matched that feeling since. It’s a shame the original developers aren’t around anymore, but it’s awesome to see their legacy continuing with this new version.
The original Gothic was groundbreaking for creating a remarkably realistic and immersive world for its time. Characters felt alive with their own daily routines, making them seem like real people, not just computer programs. The upcoming remake aims to update the game’s look and feel while staying true to what fans loved about the original. Players will once again start as an outsider thrown into a harsh penal colony with a strict social order. Like the first game, this version will challenge players right from the beginning. Built using Unreal Engine 5, Gothic 1 Remake promises stunning visuals and, hopefully, smooth performance.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
The Long-Awaited Return To The Caribbean
Fans have been eagerly awaiting a true follow-up to Black Flag for about ten years, and while they received Skull and Bones, Ubisoft is now delivering what many really wanted: a remake of what’s considered one of the greatest pirate games ever made. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a huge release, as there’s really nothing else quite like it.
This remake isn’t just a visual update; it includes significant changes to gameplay. Combat and stealth have been completely revamped – you can even crouch whenever you want! The notorious tailing missions are returning, but you won’t fail immediately if you’re detected. While Edward Kenway’s story remains largely the same, the updated version, Rescynced, will feature new content, offering a fresh experience beyond a simple re-release.
Assuming it launches in a good state, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced should be an easy homerun.
Echoes of Aincrad
Live Your Own SAO Story
Look, I’ve played a lot of Sword Art Online games, and honestly, none of them have really blown me away. But I’m seriously hopeful that’s going to change with Echoes of Aincrad – it looks amazing! What I’m most excited about is that instead of playing as Kirito, we get to make our own character and have a totally new adventure in the SAO world. I’m not entirely sure how much freedom we’ll have with the story, but it sounds like it’s going to be a huge battle for survival, with thousands of players trapped inside. It’s a really cool concept, and I can’t wait to try it out!
Despite having a companion system where you explore with a partner, Echoes of Aincrad won’t offer cooperative gameplay. Your companion will primarily function as an extension of your character’s abilities, and teamwork between the two will be key. Players will have a lot of freedom in how they develop their character, choosing skills and stats to fit their preferred playstyle. And for those seeking a real challenge, Echoes of Aincrad will also include a permadeath mode – making it a truly hardcore SAO experience.
