Vampire Crawlers features a variety of stats, and they’re all crucial for success. While players can specialize in certain stats to create a unique playstyle, some stats are universally helpful no matter how you approach the game.
The Duration stat consistently impacts how you play in Vampire Crawlers. While it doesn’t directly cause damage or have an instant effect, it’s an important part of the game. This guide will explain everything players need to know about it.
What Does Duration Do in Vampire Crawlers?
Vampire Crawlers: Duration, Explained
In Vampire Crawlers, you start by choosing a character, called a Crawler, and then selecting a dungeon to explore on the World Map. As you progress through quests and unlock new content, you’ll be able to buy and use multiple Crawlers at the same time.
When you play a Crawler card, its effect works normally. But the special thing about Crawlers is that you can activate an extra ability by playing a card of a certain color.
To know which card will bring them more benefits with a Crawler, they can hover over their icon.
Using a Crawler’s special ability shortens its time on the field by one turn. To help Crawlers use their abilities more often and stay in play longer without needing to be returned to the deck, players should focus on increasing their Duration.
-
- Example: The Antonio Crawler card appeared in the hand that players drew. When they play it, they will receive its card effect: Add 3 Armor. This will not occur again until the card returns to their deck and they play it again. However, while Antonio appears on the left-side of the combat UI, players are able to trigger his ability. In this case, whenever they play a Red Card (Attack), they it will increase their Might by 10 percent. The more Red Card that they play, the more times they will trigger the ability, and its duration will decrease.
How to Increase Duration in Vampire Crawlers
The Duration stat determines how long Crawlers stay in play before they go back to the discard pile. Players can extend a Crawler’s Duration by buying upgrades in the village’s Power Ups section or by using the Spellbinder card during a battle.
Players can use the Spellbinder card either before or after playing a Crawler. If there isn’t a Crawler in play yet, Spellbinder adds to the Duration shown on the screen. Once a Crawler is in play, that Duration value is added to the Crawler’s normal Duration.
-
- Example: The Mortaccio Crawler has 2 base Duration. This means that if gamers play his card, they can activate his ability twice before the Crawler card returns to the Deck. If they’ve purchased 2 Duration Power Ups in the village (marked in white/permanent), Mortaccio will always be called into battle with 4 Duration. Additionally, if they use Spellbinder, which adds 2 Duration without any combos (marked in yellow/temporary), he will be brought into battle with 6 Duration.
The math involved can become complicated when players use multiple Crawlers simultaneously, execute lengthy Spellbinder combos, or attach a Duration gem to Spellbinder. This is particularly true if a Crawler’s ability is activated using yellow cards.
