Sucker Punch Productions’ Infamous series was popular on the PlayStation 3 and had some presence on the PlayStation 4, but Sony hasn’t focused on it recently. After facing criticism for its PC porting strategy, PlayStation announced it would prioritize single-player narrative games. Recent reports suggest a possible revival of the Infamous series is in the works, with remakes planned for the PlayStation 5.
According to Jordan Middler of VGC, a well-known source for gaming news, Sony is reportedly developing a remake of the original Infamous games for the PlayStation 5. Middler clarified that this information came from a single source and hasn’t been confirmed yet. He explained on the Kinda Funny podcast that while no one directly told him this, it was strongly suggested to him.
Middler pointed out the remake could have easily been cancelled, so it’s best to be cautious about this news. He also noted that the original game’s developer, Sucker Punch Productions, isn’t involved, leaving it unclear who’s working on the remake. Considering Sony recently shut down Bluepoint Games, a studio known for remakes, we’ll need more details before we know for sure.
Rumors of a new Infamous game have surfaced before. Back in July 2022, the developers at Sucker Punch stated they weren’t working on Infamous or Sly Cooper, as they were focused on a different project, Ghost of Yotei. However, that was four years ago, and things can change quickly at PlayStation.
