Nintendo recently revealed Pictonico!, a new game for iPhones and Android phones. It’s a collection of quick, fun minigames that use photos from your camera roll. Nintendo says the game will be available on Thursday, May 28th – just over a week from now.
Nintendo isn’t new to making games for phones. While they’ve long been a major player in handheld gaming, they didn’t start releasing games directly on phones until 2016 with Miitomo, a social app. Super Mario Run followed later that year and, though critics generally liked it, many players complained about its $10 price tag. Since then, Nintendo has released eight more mobile games with mixed results. Some of the more popular ones include Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Mario Kart Tour, and Pikmin Bloom.
Pictonico! Launches on iOS and Android on May 28
Pictonico! is Nintendo’s newest mobile game for iOS and Android. It’s a collection of quick, quirky minigames similar to the WarioWare series, where you’ll be editing and playing with the photos on your phone. While we don’t know all the minigames yet, the trailer shows some really strange and fun activities.

The game features fun activities like taking a picture of a friend and then making it look like they’re eating food from a skewer by moving their jaw on screen. Another activity involves dressing your friend as a baby and playfully moving a lollipop in front of their face. Pictonico! allows players to use existing photos or take new ones directly within the app.
Starting May 28th, Pictonico! will be available as a free download on both iOS and Android devices. However, the free version will only include a demo with a limited selection of minigames. To unlock all of Pictonico!‘s photo-based minigames, you’ll need to purchase two separate game volumes. Volume 1 costs $5.99, and Volume 2 is priced at $7.99. While the exact number of minigames in each volume hasn’t been announced, the game will launch with a total of 80 minigames.

Nintendo recently announced Pictonico!, and it’s already getting a lot of attention from gamers. Many are pointing out similarities between the new, fast-paced game and the WarioWare series. Specifically, people are comparing it to WarioWare: Snapped!, a game from 2009 where players used the Nintendo DSi camera. The most recent WarioWare game, WarioWare: Move It!, came out in 2023 and was a Nintendo Switch exclusive that used the Joy-Con controllers in creative ways.
