During a side event at Hederacon, held alongside Consensus 2026 in Miami, Ted from LIFTT Capital succinctly described XRP as a ‘World Bridge Currency’ when asked about it.
Ted begins by pointing out a key issue with today’s financial system. Platforms like PayPal and Cash App function as self-contained systems – money enters, but largely stays within that platform. Transferring money *between* these different platforms is often slow, costly, and relies on multiple intermediaries, which creates unnecessary complications.
He believes the key to connecting these separate systems is interoperability – allowing them to easily share information and value. He sees XRP as the digital currency that makes this connection possible.
Ted clarified he wasn’t referring to traditional money like coins or bills. He explained that XRP represents a more fundamental type of currency, representing what he considers the purest form of money.
Where RLUSD Fits In
A frequent discussion within the XRP community centers around whether RLUSD, Ripple’s stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, is a competitor to XRP or works alongside it. Ted has clearly stated his position on this matter.
For XRP to be a widely used global currency, it needs a reliable foundation that ensures quick transactions without price swings. RLUSD offers this stability, while XRP acts as the connection between currencies. They’re built to complement each other, not compete.
He highlighted that Ripple executives Brad Garlinghouse and Monica Long have publicly announced their plans for XRP to become a global bridge currency, emphasizing this isn’t just speculation, but a clear and visible goal the company is pursuing.
According to Ted, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently stated at XRP Las Vegas that the future involves multiple blockchains, not just one. Ted emphasized this isn’t about favoring one chain over another, but simply recognizing the natural direction of the technology.
